Starbucks across New York City are closing off their bathrooms to the public, The New York Post reports. The loo-line is often too long for employees to take a quick leak, and the cost of having to fix the overused bathrooms two or three times a week is simply too high.
(There's no word if the lavatory-lockdown is a response to the exploits of Mister PeePee, a local man who has vowed to masturbate in every one of the 298 Starbucks bathrooms in New York City.)

coffee is a diruetic. i'm sure this is going to cause some problems for the patrons who use starbucks as a remote office.

And lest we forget the company's recent loss of control over their employees' restroom voyeurism.

Occupy: Starbucks

^ This is going to be my new phrase for using the restroom.
"Excuse me a moment, I need to go occupy Starbucks."

StarBucks is rubbish anyway - overpriced and no customer service. Why would you try to relax in a crowded place such as this *bucks.
Support your local business rather than Coporations ruling the city!
Got to go.....I can smell the coffee :o)

Must be a result of an increase of royalty fees by Norah Jones.

This is good for NYC Starbucks.
The lines are always at least 20 people. And most of them are not customers. NYC has always needed to buck up and create more public restrooms. NY population is over 8million!- actually with all the daily commuters and tourists it exceeds 17+ millione-pill

exactly what i was thinking. how bad is the nyc public restroom situation when people would rather line up in shame inside a sb's? it's a human comfort thing preferring a pleasant sb toilet smelling of christmas blend and bing crosby to a scary public hole, i get it, but sb shouldn't have to put up with it.
- or maybe they can charge per use to solve the problem?...prophetone

But doesnt the bylaw/code require certain types of businesses to provide restroom facilities to their customers? Especially when serving food and drink and providing means for them to sit and stay?
- "...bathroom key? may i please see your receipt?"prophetone

The employees of Dean & Deluca in NYC will give you the 4 digit passcode to unlock their restroom if you are a paying customer.

The McDonald's restrooms in NYC require a coin token handed out by at the cash register.
- brilliant, like endless bathroom keys. so simple.prophetone
- Sure, and you can give them to homeless people instead of real change.ETM
- McD's bathroom coins are more treasured than gold. You would never give one to a homeless person.randommail
- Sorry, I come from a city without any of this crazy BS. :) Didn't know it was so valuable.ETM

how does this work for starbucks within a bookstore like a barns and nobles.. or did that place close down??
wifi for customers only.. they will provide a passcode to use the service, and if you use your coupon you can use the the bathroom twice a week for up to 3 minutes.

You can do a lot with an empty Starbucks cup in a desperate situation like this. Probably more with that new Trenta size.

Starbucks coffee is shite anyway.
