Does anyone have any experience with craigslist scams?
Is it fishy if you sublet and the person asks for a large sum upfront and doesn't want to offer the lardlord's name?

in any situation like that, if you're gut is telling you something's wrong, then...

the large sum is the first month's rent. why would someone just offer you the landlord's name. the less you know the better.

Most likely they are not allowed sublet so they wouldnt want to show landlord's name. But if landlord finds out, you are out of the apartment and chances are, you are not going to see your security deposit every again.
1st month and security is standard in NYC. Anything beyond that it's illegal. You should get it in writing about sublet. Get a contract and verify the lease holder.
If its fishy, don't do it. Better to be safe.
I had an opportunity to sublet a rent controlled apartment, a full floor railroad apartment in west village for fraction of the price. I decided not to because the guy told me that I had to be discrete about landlord finding out. I rented it regardless. Who can't say no to 1200sqf in west village for $2000. I moved in piece by piece, a bag at a time from a storage I got.
I was out of there with in a week. Neighbor called the landlord and got evicted. The guy painfully returned my payment but initially, he didnt and resisted as he had indicated that there was a risk for the price.
