Where would you suggest a Kiwi might find a welcome and a decent job?

i'm from nz- moved to the us six years ago. the wife and i got married and bought a 1 way ticket to l.a. - drove around for a few months before settling in tennessee, cause we liked the way it felt. it's a good way to find where you like rather than searching the internet. still here, run my own business. it's expensive to get all the green cards/visa's though - and took us nearly 2 years to complete the process.
- Of all places ... Tennessee ... not sure what to saymonospaced
- it's beautiful here- spend a lot of time kayaking hiking in the mts. love itbjladams
- East Tenn near the Smoky Mountains really is beautiful,,, I grew up there....vaxorcist

@bjladams, I'd be curious if you'd find the business culture different here than in NZ.....
I once worked at an agency that had outsourced some web dev work to a firm in NZ.... the US people were far more confrontational and edgy, the NZ people just wanted to get things done without drama.... but then again, maybe in Tenn, it's less crazy than the coasts...

@vaxorcist -
my business partner is a hillbilly - not to be confused with a redneck. he wears shoes, is college educated, well read, and knows how to act at black-tie affairs :-) he's actually working on a book of oral history of the local mountain people before their culture is completely gone.we both have the same sort of outlook on work. we're pretty laid back, and a lot of people like working with us for that reason. if it's a nice day, we'll often just not go to the office - but on the other hand, we've never missed a deadline and are not scared to lock ourselves in 'till a project is complete.
there's uptight people here and back in nz too - we just choose not to work with them.
- sounds cool... I'd love to see that book!vaxorcist
- it's a slow process, lots of hiking up into the hills to interview. when it's done i'll post something herebjladams

I'm a Kiwi in Portland, Oregon. Depending on what you are looking for this city is pretty damn amazing. Beautiful location (close proximity to mountains and a sea). Great food and bars. Flourishing tech sector and an affordable place to live populate with salt of the earth awesome people.
- I've been in portland for a quick meeting, near the slabtown bar. the area looked pretty nice!dyspl
