^ I tried on 550's and they were great in the crotch and waist area. But I wanted a straighter leg.

eh? no. 501's are relatively long in the rise. fit hasn't change.
510, 511, 514 etc are lower rise.

I had similar issues with the 501's, especially finding my boxers would just bunch up in the wrong places, making things very uncomfortable. I sought a pair of jeans that would do away with this clumsy bulging. Constantly shaming myself, sticking my hands down my pants, just to push them back down. The girls would looks, snicker, perhaps smile at how dumb i looked.
Then one day, while cruising around the aisles of clothing, a pair of jeans named 514 presented itself in various colors. I took a gamble and grabbed a bunch of them in different colors. As I put them on, I could feel the power of these straight legged jeans. Never again, will I have to put my hands down my pants to fix my boxers.

i think levi's are all 'low-rise' these days, so if that's the problem maybe try a diff. brand. i like the levi's bootcut or original flair... i buy them one size bigger than a tight fit... only jeans i wear.

I want some simple straight jeans.
I like 501's, but they just don't fit my body type. Just tried some on and they ride up my crotch too much.
Any recommendations?
