so i have an opportunity for a freelance job.
the gig is being the sole motion designer for a company that does pretty corporate work, but good impressive clients.my two concerns: being the only designer on staff. i've got experience but nervous about this aspect. they have writers and editors on staff.
its a freelance to perm job, but i'd have to relocate for it.
should i just do it ? i'd rather not move, and stay in ny....but ya gotta go where the money is right?

IF IT MIGHT MAKE YOU HAPPY, WHY NOT.
IF YOU LIKE YOUR LIFE NOW, STAY.

no way i would move my shit for a freelance opp unless it is a city i would like to put roots down. i'd tell the new place the only way i move is if its a perm position.

i have family i can crash with though i'd rather not...i don't mind the city but i grew up here and its too far from the ocean for me is a big issue....

Sounds like you're looking for reasons not to do it.
Stay in NY... if you like it there.
Or if it's your dream job, go for it. Being the only designer on staff never sounds good.

whats [x] months really ? if anything you'll have some decent clients within that timeframe (otherwise you know to GTFO). plus the fact you're saving a shit load of money by staying with family.
go in with a confident mindset of what you want in that job and then assess yourself at a later time.

unless its for the 'perfect company' then don't do it.
freelance to perm is too up in the air to relocate to a new city, and unless you're gung-ho about that kind of adventure, you need to listen to your gut and just not do it! My .02.

I moved for a freelance job once... then found out it was pretty bad... moved to another job and then got laid off. I had zero network, but eventually found a solid job, It was one of the most stressful times of my life. I would only move now for a permanent job.
