Things may be different in Canada, but if you're doing it remotely (as I did it for 5 years from Brazil to a UK agency), I was just registered as a Sole Trader in Brazil.

See, that's the thing, they want me on-site, which I would prefer anyway. Naturally, in cases like this, the UKBA website is useless ... ¬_¬

you can do it, but it will be slightly complicated as you are physically here... I would ask a friend with a LTD to invoice on your behalf.
It can be easily done, as far as you cover the tax costs...
- I thought about that, but the point is that he's not allowed to work, and the fine for that is £10k for the LTD companychrisRG

Without a work permit, you mean ... ?
- I'd help you with my LTD, but without a work permit I could be fined.chrisRG

Oh no worries, Chris, I wouldn't want to put you in that position anyway.
It just seems to me, though, that there surely must be a way to bypass the whole permit thing if I'm operating as a Canada-registered sole trader with a Canadian tax number with payment made on my account in Canada.
Bleh.
- not to worry mate, if you need any help here you can count on me... catch u me in Skype if you need ;)chrisRG
