"T Mobile said that Shamir was billed $10 per megabyte and that they had texted the rate to him.
Four additional texts were sent to his phone as the charges surged, they said."
They knew they were getting charged as they were using it but kept using it.
"But then Shamir went to Canada for a two-week holiday.
Neither Celina nor her brother thought to change him to an international plan."Didn't bother to look in to it.
Typical American mentality. Complaining will get you out of issues.

Similar thing happened to my friend, although on a slightly smaller scale.
He didn't realise the radio would cost him internet fees and played it the whole 2 weeks he was on holiday. Came back to something like a £2,000 bill.
Rang up and contested it and they let him off. Wtf.

I must say, I find it very strange that US mobile providers have such punishing rates when it comes to roaming in Canada. Then, again, Canadian mobile providers probably do the same – or worse – just cos they pretty much exist to roger their customers any chance they get.
Still, this lady should have done her research before the phone even left the house.

crazy how everyone is jumping on her,
but not complaining about the cost of a few Kilobytes of data, sending videos and sms cost virtually nothing, but instead of getting pissed at corporations for screwing us, you get angry at the stupid lady for being stupid, roaming or not,
it's still a scam

Celina has two brothers who were born deaf and cannot speak.
Shamir the younger one is in college and doesn't work, and Celina is especially close to him.Between them the two brothers sent over 2,000 texts and also downloaded videos, sometimes racking up $2,000 in data charges.
i mean isnt there a handicap data plan?

this should be seen as a scam? she shouldn't be accountable? call me crazy but i would spend the 30 sec double checking my roaming abroad rates before going anywhere and taking appropriate action. it's called being responsible. and if the rates are scamtastic, with which i whole heartedly agree about as they are soooo very brutal, then don't sign up with that carrier i guess?...
