Thinking About Moving to LA

If you will be working in downtown, and you have a small family (I'm assuming this means kid(s)...) you probably want to move to either Silverlake or somewhere around Eagle Rock.

Schools in LA can get pretty gnarly so that is kind of an issue when moving. I have 3 year old twins and right now they are going to preschool in Silverlake (even though Im actually in Hollywood, but you don't want to live here, trust me on that one...) however in a couple years time when they start real (public) school the plan is to head north-east so they can go to school around Pasadena (which is just north of Eagle Rock) where the schools are much better.

Other that that, I think the closest place to the west you might consider would be Culver City, but its a gnarlier drive from there...

    • have you considered Private School (non-cathalic)?Alu

@fresnobob - thanks, Culver City to the office is just over 10 miles on the number 10 freeway. How long would you say that would take? Google is saying 17mins but I guess thats way off during prime time?
Pasadena is just over 11 miles on the 110...

LA is a different world. Make sure that's where you want to live.

I thought I'd like it, but after grad school (UCLA, where Brentwood/Beverly Hills make it all look so pretty...but you can never live there long term) and moving to a reasonable area I started to hate it. I left and wouldn't go back without making a TON.

I certainly wouldn't raise kids there. But that's just my two cents, obviously some love the chaos and asphalt.
