Try Marnixstraat, has a half decent bar called Lux, also a few others on there and a nice Belgium bar round the corner on Raamstraat
- Ta.Fax_Benson
- Café De Zotte is the one in Ramstraat, I think. Went there a few times.Continuity

FallowDeer - Lux is ALWAYS packed and stuffy. The Belgium bar... that starts with a Z, right? Zoot or something? That's cool.
That area is right next to Lieseplein, which is a huge bar area. Plenty to do around there.
If you like beer, go here: http://www.arendsnest.nl/ it's not a party place, but amazing selection of Dutch beers.
L&B Whiskey cafe is a cool place too.
Zeedijk, near central is a fun street. Close to Red Light, NeuMarkt, and centraal. If you like Guinness, there is a bar called Molly Malones that pours Guinness properly and has a much nicer flavor than US type.
If you want clubs, go to Rebrandtplein, lots of clubs. Otherwise I always stick to Zeedijk and just go from bar to bar.

oh, and food it hard to find, but a few cheap quicker places...
La Perla - thin style pizza, fresh made
Japanese Pancake House - Okonomiyaki (this area around this has several good places)
BurgerMeester - Burgers...
Wok to Walk - good drunk food, or a quick meal- dont recommend these food places, sorry :)whereRI
- have you been to all of them? come on now! Dutch food is miserable!jfletcher
- I think most of Amsterdam should be experienced with a certain amount of foreign chemistry in the body.honest
- yeah i have, been here 5 years, la perla is good tho, i missed that sorry, rest is terrible, but yes dutch food suckswhereRI
- wok to walk is awesome! Come on... it's the only decent fast food we have!jfletcher
- Fries with Mayo+Satay do rock, but also probably cause heart disease!jfletcher

@jfletcher: Café de Zotte is the Belgian bar. It's rather small, but has great beers, great snack trays, and the menu is half-decent, too.
- yea get a couple of pints of kwak you will be alright!FallowDeer
- yes! That's it!jfletcher
- I love Kwak.MrT

There's also the club at Hotel Arena in 's-Gravesandestraat. It used to be pretty cool about ten years ago when it opened, but I'm not sure if it still is now.

So who's going to this Valtifest? What's it like?

Any red light recommendations / places to avoid?
- Snapping pics of the hookers is strictly forbidden.Continuity
- jfletcher0
la vie en proost is in the only strip club I know of... little hard to find though. If you're looking for bars in red light, I like Excaliber, but mostly cause I'm a rock/metal guy.
I haven't found a place yet to avoid from fear or danger or anything, but I usually avoid the red light area as it's full of some jerk people and tourists... and business men :) Generally the red light is much better in your head than it is in person. It's sort of depressing, esp when you walk through on a Monday morning to work or something :P
- the reason is I say "strip club" is buying hookers is a little over-the-top for me, but go for it if it works for you!jfletcher
- red light is full of tourists, some nasty sights tho, suppose they cater for everyoneFallowDeer
- interseted in tips re anything up to and including hookers. Smut isn't the reason for the trip, but there's no harm in having some info.
