My parents have a digital camera that has a display the size of a postage stamp and they can barely see it. Looking to buy a new one for them. What would you recommend as the most user friendly, point and shoot camera for people who are technologically challenged?

My parents are in their 70's and they love their Panasonic Lumix with a large, pretty clear touchscreen display... that and my mom's iPad...
but they're both more tech-savvy than most people, my dad was programming Fortran before I was born.....

You know, this is a good question. There are a range of cameras out there that have large screens, and are easy to use. Most companies have them for about 200 bucks, maybe even less. I would try to stay away from cameras that shoot raw.
I say this because I convinced my aunt to get a camera that shoots raw (she got it a good price, If I remember correctly it was one of the panasonic lumix, older versions) While she's not the most tech savy person, I had to explain what raw was, how to use it, when to use it... basically teach her photo lessons over the phone. Nothing more frustrating.

get a canon digital elph. set it to auto and it's virtually fool-proof.
some are better than others, but the sd1400 and 100HS are two good places to start.

Just because they are old doesn't mean they can't learn. Get them a decent point and shoot and they'll figure it out. All these camera's have a green auto setting that will let you take pictures with minimum fuss.
I bought my mum (who didn't know anything about electronics) a decent camera. She just just went for it. And now two years later she still loves it. And I bought her a mac. It took her a while to get to grips with it and now she can use skype, mail, iphoto etc.
Don't asume your folks won't be interested/capable of using a new camera.
Too guarantee success... hide the old one.
- uh yeah.... my dad's an uber-techie engineering professor...vaxorcist

My mom just started using the internet, and got a new PC laptop. She was the most computerphobic person ever.

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately, they don't want to learn despite offers to help them do so. I'll be going with a Canon - thanks monNom
