An exchange might work.....

The amount of money these types is unlikely ever to change much beyond ‘as little as possible’, so I'd consider shaping your proposition to better fit their budget.
Consider investing some time in a couple of your own standard boilerplate designs, which you can easily and compellingly amend to suit each client.

hektor.. i exchange so much that my rent is the only thing i worry about. My coffee fund is full from working for cafe's, my food is taken care of from doing sites/design/social engineering for bar&grilles.
I love the barter and trade economy for most of my jobs but my plate is mainly full of artist that need work done. I hate to ask for money from them b/c their work edifies my creative soul and makes my small business/corporate work all the better.
Detritus your totally right. its always "well how cheap can we do this for...." and my answer is always a tough one to reply. I love this kind of work and would love to have a bank roll to live off so that i could help these types out more. but the real world's a bitch :)

It may help if you don't spell "sites" as "site's"...
