why dont the police have anything more than a shield and a baton? if all this started when a cop killed a thug with a gun, where are the other guns? i mean, in all the videos, the cops looks frightened and not sure how to react to it.. not that there is a rule book for this sort of thing, but straight up vandalism. i understand that using guns for the police is what got them here in hte first place, but they are here now, so why not enforce the law, with force?
i never knew england to be so savage. its shocking. this anti-violence act your police force uses isnt working. also this olympics next year.. um.. no who the fuck wants to visit your city?!?!
if the police used some action.. also in all the youtube vids you see cars and buildings burning down.. where re all the firetrucks? why is the city still on fire? its like devil's night, but its not october.
london is just chaos.. even without the riots.. nothing makes sense.

do you notice all "rioters" are black?
- Not all of them but a large proportion.kalkal

They're children of social welfare. Their mothers paid by the state not to ever find a father.
The kids learn that free manna cheques come in weekly, making the idea of taking up a job laughable.- < yep! but reducing benefits has this effect. Dilemma #1Projectile

I didn't realize that the police don't use water cannons or the like in England. I've seen water cannons out for much less than this.

I used to live near totenham...
it's not a nice place to live, but if we look at the broader picture, I guess people fell frustraded...
They cut welfare and pay the big banks and big business to stay afloat. People say that the majority of rioters are black... well most black people don't have a future. Their parents were "welcomed" in the uk in the 50's and 60's as cheap labour... I guess that if you see all your life, your family working in poor conditions, and being the first ones to be fired, it makes you angry against the "establishment"...
if you have no future perspectives, I guess you don't care about society....just my 2 cents...
- "they cut welfare"—you're saying like it was ever hard to find a job in London.raf

Just so we're not mistaking this - although the original protest may have had some political undercurrent - the current riots have none. The people doing all the looting and destroying couldn't give two monkeys about the politics - all they care about is that because there's so many of them, they can steal and destroy and have all their fun and the police can't do much to stop them. There's no motivation now other than greed and mindless, consequenceless destruction. And it makes me laugh how all the "posher" politicians and analysts are busy blaming recent government cuts and other such things as the main motivations - they're not. Growing up in South London for my whole life, this kind of culture with certain youths has been there far before all of that nonsense, and most of them are too ignorant to care about politics in the slightest. In all big events like carnivals and fairs you'll always see big throngs of hooded youths randomly all moving together - granted not doing much but certainly being loud, obnoxious and annoying.
And since the London student protests, they seem to have decided it's acceptable to hijack basically every protest to all meet up together and destroy, loot and cause mischief. And our police force are too soft because every time they do take a hard stance, they get absolutely slated for it.. Even now they're going to be criticised to hell for not being able to do anything for the last few days - but if they had taken out the water cannons and rubber bullets, they'd have been criticized for being too harsh by stupid moany politically correct activists.
Posted from another forum. Someone else also seemed to have the odd idea that this is all politically based.

kalkal:
I'm not saying that the people who are rioting are politically orientated...
but if you see someone robbing millions and being slaped in the wrist, i guess you can think that if you stell a led tv, its ok!
What I'm sayinhg is that greed is ok....
greed is goog, unless it comes from a poor guy....
If the markets are stelling jobs that's called a recession.... and we need to do something about it, but if a black guy is shoot by the police, then it's because he deserved it...I guess that you see on the news and in entertainment, everyday, that greed and absolute individualism is ok....
So if I have a chance they will grab it... thats in my view why a pacific protest became a wide spread riot....- Let's see your house on fire and then ask you about your opinion again.kalkal
- If it burns down, the insurance will pay, but if it is repossessed by the bank because of crapy "economic" conditions, its not a crime... right?obsolete
- The insurance company who relies on the banks which you speak of? Double standards.kalkal
- yep I do have double standards!
but you have to... people are still more important than money, right?obsolete
