Screen real estate aside, I would like to hear opinions as to whether the new loaded MacBook Air would do the trick for web design duties (Photoshop/Illy/etc).
Thanks

i can already tell you, down to the exact verbiage and by whom, how this thread is going to go.
ps. benchtests say the new macbook air is faster than the macbook pro. or some shit i saw online i don't remember. i'd google macbook air bench tests and check there first.

The answer is this: could you do webdesign on shittier computers that were made like four, five years ago?

if I had the same amount of money to spend, I would get a vaio z serie

it cant do more than 4gigs of ram so its gonna be choppy
- SDD does speed things up.. Photoshop won't need much ram due to low res imagesejectstudio

only 2 USB's
no HDMIshiny buttons
- why would you need more than 2 usbs in a laptop? you really have 3 things plugged in there at one time??CanHasQBN
- When at home I use my laptop as a desktop: monitor, keyboard, mouse and external hdPixter
- macbook pro has 2 usb.kona
- that thing above has 2 usb.kona
- i have 2 usb. usb = balls. 2 is a good number.kona
- it has one of those fancy lightpipes? non? i assumed you could attach a few monitors to one of those.kingsteven
- yeah, apple monitorsPixter

I am getting one for web design/development, but it will be hooked up to a monitor 95% of the time.

I was hoping to get the top lined Macbook Air. However, I don't think the 1.7GHZ processors and 256GB flash storage for the Macbook Airs cut it for graphic web professionals using Photoshop. Hoping Apple comes out with a Macbook Air Pro sometime in the near future. My computer is just too sluggish and despite it being a laptop, I don't like carrying it because its still too heavily inconvenient due to its weight and size.
- It is faster than last year's 17" i7 Pro, what more do you want?raf
- A computer that is comparable to the year i bought.omg
- Sure. The computer you want weighs over 2 times the weight of the Air.raf
- you sure you'll be able to persuade your mommy to buy you the TOP OF THE LINE Mac Book Air? I mean it's pretty $$$.Boz
- @Boz. I don't want to, but sometimes I gots toomg
- @raf - rumors that the next macbook pro will be light as Airomg

The Air will be fine for Web design. Code and 72 DPI graphics? You could do it on a netbook.

Better hope you never get any big files you have to open.

next gen mbp should be that thin and quiet.

for webcoding I would try out the http://www.google.com/chromebook…, not the air

I can say for the first time that if Apple releases a 15" Mac Book Air that it will be tops in my book.
15" MBA with i7 CPU/8gb ram and 256GB SSD drive with hopefully dedicated GPU (but even if it's not it's not a huge deal) and I"m all over that.

new MBA is more than capable running dev/design software. 4gb of ram and i7 will do the job just fine.
The biggest issue IS the screen real estate. Not so much for coders but a big problem for designers. It's just way too cramped.
- thunderbolt display would be favourite... I'd go MacBook Air all day longejectstudio

I rarely unplug the laptop from monitor or even open the lid. Air will be perfect for me, I'll be able to take it with me anytime.
My 17" 3Kg Pro brick always stays home.I'd just prefer it to have some more SSD than 256GB...
