NYC vs CHI salaries

I'm looking to hire someone onto my team from CHI. They will work remotely. I know there are calculators etc online, but they seem a bit odd in their results.
So what better than a QBN poll! Anybody have experience with the comparison first hand (cost of living etc)? The hire in NYC would make about 130k. Any idea what that equals in CHI $$$?

what is the position? CD? Senior Developer? I would guess salaries would be pretty comparable, but Chicago is a bit more inexpensive. I only know KC and NYC salaries. Never lived in Chicago.
- Chicago more expensive than NY??CyBrainX
- re-read that line.bulletfactory

Was hoping to find someone who has moved directly from one to the other. Must be a lot of those people on here.

the "salary" is one thing... and I hope the above helped a bit.... but it's not the most important part about keeping a creative....
we all know this....
but being paid in "creative freedom" is better than anything... .the quality of communication and lack of freakazoidalism is worth an INSANE amount to any sane art director... so keep this in mind... no $$ will keep a good creative for long if it's the only thing....
- for example, will this AD have to sit in on time-shifted conference calls every morning?!?vaxorcist
- conf calls are a way of life. I minimize them, but they exist. That said I keep my team to a 35-40 week and it's chill.antagonista
- and I do have a very clear and rigid direction, but it allows freedom within those boundaries.antagonista
