- You're missing the point, my point anyway.set
- You don't have a point, just thoughtless, childish cynicism.
I pity you.mikotondria3 - lol, okie doke.set
- Btw, are you a fatty?set
- hahaha...technically not, but I am looking to start my diet next week. I used to be well cynical about fatness too, but not now..mikotondria3
- Obesity as in the case of them speaks volumes about a person. Anyway, good luck and I hope the diet goes well :-)set
- Mmm. no, really it doesn't. I speak from experience.
And thanks, I just need 50lbs off to be skinny again, like I shd be.mikotondria3 - It categorically does.set

Why would you ever make public winning that amount of money? Surely it just opens you up to fuck loads of charity junk mail!

- Move and get new unlisted phone number. Problem solved.Continuity

@benja:
It's actually part of the agreement in many national lotteries that the corporation running it can publish photos and your name, etc for marketing purposes. If you don't sign that, the money isn't yours.
Sucks, but there it is.
- here in the UK you get the decisionset
- Really? And without being penalised? That's FAR more sensible.Continuity
- as far as I know... it's usually the big thing when someone wins... will they... won't they...set
- mikotondria30
I wouldn't care. Just employ someone to screen your calls and mail.
"Anything good in the post today ? "
"No.".
Move on to picking out more sound equipment for the big boat before a quick trot off to your favorite restaurant to meet with your charity guy about that thing you're providing anonymously for those people that need the place and that stuff.
Back home for some tv, get ready for the evening's laziness/outing.
Repeat.- haha. this is exactly what i would do, minus the sound equipment, add in the coke.chalk

Why not £1 million to 161 families?
- Not a bad economic stimulus idea there, actually.Continuity
- exactly !!set
- because that's not how lotto works, my friend.digdre
- Yes I know. I'm just saying, it seems a wasteukit
- mikotondria30
what ?
Because 161 families didn't play the same numbers as them...
That's how it works. If you pick the right numbers, and no one else does - YOU get the money.
Money that other people have spent (willingly) on THEIR tickets.
There's no injustice here. It's not like there's not enough money to go round. They won this much - fair and square.
When they spend it, other people will get it.

@mikotondria:
I'm not disagreeing. When all is said and done, what they do with their money – or the fact they've got it in the first instance – isn't our business. Were they to choose to spread their winnings round like that, it would be awfully big of them (no pun intended) and absolutely admirable.
I don't think anyone really has the right to think ill of them should they choose not to do something like that.
Anyway, they do seem decent folk, and – for all we know – they might just decide to spread it around their community. Otherwise, kudos to them on their new life.
- Yeh. They just seem like normal people to me. Stuck up there in largs, having worked all their life - they look like my familymikotondria3
- and it's great to see that now they'll be able to do things and go places they never thought possible.mikotondria3

It does make you think though....who needs 161 million? Surely the law of diminishing returns kicks in at some point.
- I'm pretty sure I could make full use of 161mil quid. :DContinuity

Look at the upside. They wont be able to breed.
- mikotondria30
161mill isn't that much - you could buy a few nice properties in places you love - an apartment in manhattan (not one of the nicer ones), somewhere in London, maybe one in europe somewhere - Alps or Itay or spain. Car or 2 in each, maybe a boat if one of them is by the water. With maintenance on them all, and factoring in the lifestyle of travelling round to each of them, and jetting off to places on a whim or touring (in a properly luxurious way, 1st class airfares, grand a night hotels.), that's about your lot if you want to maintain that lifestyle. You can't go buying football clubs or snapping up every property you see. You could conceivably spend it all on 1 house if you wanted to really splash out, then you're stuck with no money to play. You still have to be careful with 100m.

To put it in perspective the Beckhams after a decade and a bit of football, fashion, music, endorsements and all the rest are now worth £165 million (they cant access all of that, thats in houses and all the rest.), and they are the 19th richest couple in the UK. Just amazing (in a good way/remarkable way) that 1 lottery win has put a couple on a par financially with some of the richest people on the planet, they won it in CASH too!. Funny really.
In Jersey sat in a bank that would make 1.5 million tax free in interest alone.
I just bought my first lottery ticket ever today.
- digdre0
imagine what one could do with £161million.
ffs.

I'm struggling to see what mikotondria3's point amongst all of this is.
- Just read my comments and analyse them for meaning. It's all there in black and white.mikotondria3
- I was just annoyed by the hubris displayed by set, and hoping that if they read this thread (I know the husband is on QBN...mikotondria3
- .), that they'll see my comments in a kindly light, and buy me some computer components. New video card, mobo, etc..mikotondria3
- So why did you have a go at me for saying I was jealous?detritus
- if, presuambly, you as a human being with the same basic wants feels the same way?detritus
- I don't, my mind is all ragged at the moment, see note 4 down.. I'm trying to enjoy arguing but it's going wrong.mikotondria3

"it will give us a chance to visit some art galleries"
Fucking dolts. You hijack the entire modern art market with 161mil£.
- *couldThePublics
- no you couldn't !
Jesus.mikotondria3 - yes you could, Damien Hirsts last solo show went for 111, which was a record.ThePublics
