Designing a website?

Someone I used to work with asked me to design a website for them. I'm not going to code it, just design it. I think it will take about 8 hrs apprx to do it. About 4 pages on the site, no flash work.
How much do you usually charge for something like this? I'm new at this lol.

£1200.00 per hour is the standard rate give or take a few variables.

It's different for everyone based on quality, experience and whether or not you are helping them figure out the actual behavior of the site and how it will work to make them money. This all falls under design. You have to find your hourly rate for it and if you don't know how to do this, then I highly suggest you read a book called "Business Side of Creativity" like ASAP.
Then look into how much time it will take you to design one page concept, depending on the complexity. 8 hours is too little for the whole site. You might as well buy a template if you think you can do a good job designing a site in 8 hours (including all pages). You will spend definitely more than 8 hours. That is unless you do a shit job. Plus you will have revisions, overall changes etc. This will take at least a few hours per page going back and forth. Also, the time you spend on the phone with them, talking and discussing, changing and going back and forth to computer is all the time you have to charge.
Many inexperienced designers don't charge for this and end up losing time on something client should have paid. Clients usually have zero respect for designers and think that you should bend to their wishes any way they like, so you have to set a tone with them and expectations immediately. Before you start work, otherwise you will be pushed and pushed and pushed without any remorse from the client and once you have wasted your time, it's a nightmare to get paid.
