I have one of these:
It scanned negatives (colour and B&W) fine until I moved house. It's now got nasty scanlines through it and it's not contrasting properly by the looks.

Anyone got any ideas what might be wrong with it? I've cleaned it properly, fucked with all the settings and still no love.

have you tried moving back to your old house and rescanning?

It's ruining my crushed blacks.

It looks like you need to replace the tension belts - they are toothed to give incremental movement of the film in front of the sensor and these teeth are probably not the right size anymore -- they are a maintenance item that needs to be replaced. When this happens the film moves jerkily in front of the sensor and you get banding perpendicular to the film path (like your film).

Those scanners I dont think are actually scanners. They take a digital image of the neg so in effect are cameras. Canon 9000f are v good / cheap.

^ Canon 9000F is $400 NZD... that's a lot, bro.

it does the job well and is cheap in comparison to pro film scanners, you'll never get a decent hi-res image from the small scanner

I only shoot film so it's worth spending the money on the 9000F, I really should have done my research before I got the shitty little film scanner. I only bought something because I'd had enough paying $15 per roll to be scanned for me at a shit resolution.

you get what you pay for scanner-wise.
otek or the one you got probably arent the best. fine for consumers but not for anything professional at all.your bound to be able to pick up old scanners on ebay. even if it's an old tank but with high res.
