Am using Indesign for the first time in a while.... do you guys create a paragraph break by hitting return twice or by setting a space below in the paragraph settings?
I used to favour setting a space below but combined with leading and baseline grid it makes me sad.
What do you printy types do?

Depends on how much space you want. There are so many ways of doing this, including no space options, that I can't give you an answer. And you can still set your baseline grid up to work with extra spaces if you do the math right. Good luck.

Depends what sort of document (how many pages) you're working with?

Yeah, just getting back to it so thought there may be a right and wrong way to do it. To be honest hitting return twice is fine... just thought it may be bad practice.

Cheers Goldieboy yeah it does, generally the content is not set so quite often bits are fudged at the end of a project... which is where space below can be a bit of a pain! Thanks guys

I find the most pleasing space between paragraphs is exactly half the leading - so 'space below'. This works in single column settings but not so well in an editorial format with multiple columns where you want alignment of type across a spread. In that case you're kinda stuck with the space being equal to the leading.
- I also like this. If my type is, say, 9/12, I set a 6pt baseline grid and can still use a 6pt space after, for instancemonospaced

I've been doing a lot of editorial work lately, and am working with InCopy files from the editorial team. They only use single line breaks @ end of paragraphs. So I set my paragraph styles to either (a) have no space, but rather an indent to start paragraphs, or (b) automatically set a certain amount of space after hard returns. Depends on the scenario.
I suppose if you want white space between paragraphs, the most efficient way to do that is to set it up in your paragraph styles, rather than hitting return twice.

you should use a line break at the end of paragraphs so you can change that globally with paragraph styles.
