any ideas how to get this glass effect?
- moldero0
google "glass text"

It's certainly nicely done, like the Spider-Man one.

Definitely one of the sexiest text effects I've seen. Though I doubt they have a layer style that does that... it looks like a more manual process, . (though I'm sure they do have a version they just slap on top of anything set up for random low-end stuff)

3d maybe? put the bg pic on reflection/sky object

I do often wonder if, for any of these sorts of things.. glossy icons etc.. people use 3D software or if it's always just trickery
Anyone here ever used 3D software to completely build a logo/icon?

I came across this before...
http://designertuts.com/creating…But I don't think that's actually how they do it. I betcha there's a 3D program involved.

as it happens I'm currently freelancing/selling my soul for that particular brand.
The logo effect is a Cinema 4D render that is created for each piece of artwork.
It's a really laborious process and it's done at the last minute by the artworkers.
- It's re-done for each execution? Urgh, sounds a bit nightmarish.Continuity
- everything at this place is a nightmare! But it works as a lowest common denominator brand.Wolfboy

Its probaby one of those plugin effects for photoshop - alienskin was one group of effects I think that had better glass styles?
Something like that anyway.- no, it's definitely cinema 4DWolfboy

- I don't think that a PS plugin could ever do such a realistic job on the reflects, TBH.Continuity

not sure I should do this, but if you want to see the process I've stripped the 'how to' out of the brand guidelines:
- cool. interesting to see how it's done.itstimefortea
- least they give you decent instructions and a workflowanimatedgif

If they were really smart about this they wouldn't need to do that effect in C4D every time. You could probably get away with a multipass render and normal / YUV maps then use those to create the reflections/distortions in After Effects (drop image in, hit export, done.) or a custom OpenFrameworks or Processing app.
- no one is that smart here. Worst client I've ever worked for - 100% controlled by marketing fuck-sticks.Wolfboy

I just quit!
I was reading back through a couple of my comments on this thread and I've handed my notice in. I've been in touch with the agents and it seems like there's work out there.
It is a weight off. And I'd like to thank Benja82 for starting this thread sending me to the tipping point!
