Ok the post about iMacs was stupid but with a mac mini, a soldering iron, a GTX 590 and a bit of ingenuity, you get the best of both worlds.

i would argue, but there is no point..

Interesting directions one could take, hard to beat $250 even if it's not the most robust system, it gets to the core of the idea... budget.
- are you taking a commission on this ad? or is it your own company?autoflavour
- This is actually quite a bit higher than my target, $250 can get and E-machine at clearance pre-built.ZOOP

Hey plash,
Is that build you posted on the first page a hackintosh? I am still intrigued with the idea of building my own "budget" computer, despite the fact that I do make enough to buy a new pre-built one (even a Mac), a topic which has ruffled some feathers here.

- oh mono, you feather ruffler.. you can ruffle my feathers any day..autoflavour

you sure can make it one.
as mentioned no os or hdd; so you're pretty much open to do what you want. (for this box its Windows7 64/ BackTrack) as a side note the performance on this thing has me itching for a secondary build. for under $560 its not bad at all. very happy. only thing im still working out is the multi core handling / overclocking ..

Once i finish building the cheapest possible PC i can, my next goal will be to give it away to someone who will actually use it. Living in a rural community, i will most likely find someone in the city where i lived for 20 almost years, and deliver it if necessary. I'm just looking to put something together that can handle the needs of the average family or student, nothing fancy. I am interested however in seeing builds in different price ranges, the one plash posted was a good example. I've always bought out of the box systems, both PC and laptop. Haven't had an Apple in the house since the Apple IIe :) $2000 monochrome wonder machine for it's day lol.
- Fancy a trip over to England. I don't own my own computer, I'm tryping this from a library.kalkal
- why dont you just donate the money to a worthy charity.. they will do more than someone who has no computer and wont know what to do with it.autoflavour
- know what to do with itautoflavour
- You could donate it to Apple but it would just confuse them.kalkal
- Apple might think I owe them money and start billing me lolZOOP
