Has anyone here got a job some time after being interviewed, specifically when the interviewer said at the time, "we'll keep your details on file"?
I'm curious - I said that to some unlucky applicants this week and wondered if I just appeared to be full of shit or offered genuine hope. Maybe both.

Yeah I did. After about 2 years. The role I was originally interviewed for wasn't quite right for me then a couple of years later they contacted me regarding a different position. So yeah, it does happen.

I also heard the Creative Director behind me yesterday say to another manager:
"Just keep a word doc on your desktop with a short email saying "we'll keep your details on file" etc to all the shit freelancers that keep writing in..."

When ever i get a really bad resume and i want to be polite i say best of luck with your search. if the persons half decent, i say keep it on file. then just save their email. often i end up forwarding those to other companies. so it's not all bad.
- This is how it should be and hopefully usually is...SunSunSun

I used to use:
"Thanks for your interest in the position, we'll keep your details for future relevant positions".
I never did.

my friend was called up 2 years after he was interviewed. so my thought is: yeah, they do keep it in file.

^ and my boss keeps several binders filled with filled out application forms and resumes. sometimes he would have me reviewed if any past applicants are worth calling back.

i forgot ever putting in the application at a place and they ended up flying me out and offering me a position. i asked them during the interview how they even found me, I was told "you applied with us about a year ago"
- i didn't remember ever applying, if anything, it was one of my email responses to a job i thought i could do atmregiste
