Forget the map - by an actual globe, say something like:
http://bit.ly/m6FJSt or this one: http://amzn.to/lJrjKG - if you are travellers I'd further recommend anything you can mark up and by doing so "we've been here" or "we're going here"...

Since she just moved to the area, you should make her a map of your town and draw in all the cool/crappy/funny/iconic places around the area. Make it funny. Make it look like a treasure map. Like if there's a loud dog across the street, draw him in. Or if there's a huge pothole around the corner that everyone hates, draw it in.

Ok, damnit. I'm assigning myself a new project. I'm going to design a fucking nice world map. Don't hold me to it.

The third map is ugly

Get her a folding map of your crotch regions instead.

what is the link to the second one?

I really like the last one.
Personally I don't think presents that are to be hung on the wall are a good idea. Unless you know for a fact they want that kind of thing. Otherwise it's just awkward as they might not want it on the wall but might not want to offend.

set, you bring an interesting point. What if I added this to the story? She's a recent home owner, looking forward to 'decorating' the house (and with my help) and we recently caught the travel bug together.
- Maybe just make a point of saying you won't be offended if she chooses not to hang it up :-)set

Quote: She's a recent home owner, looking forward to 'decorating' the house
Then its even trickier, if its the only artwork she has and she doesn't want to put it up on the wall.
Have you thought about making one yourself, and put on it the places you have thought of traveling?

There should be a damn quote button on this site.
pfft.

This sounds like a potential minefield. I'd just not bother, and maybe tell her you don't want to see her anymore if she can't appreciate a simple map.

Get a quality, real map.
Not some faddish designer gimmick.
