Ive just got a promotion at work which Ive worked my arse off for this year and was wondering if you guys had any advice on what I can expect pay wise.

I started as a junior a year ago and have just been promoted to middleweight designer. I have been put on the companies standard for this (£25k, a £5k rise ) but most of my job is now motion graphics/web video stuff which from looking around seems to be around £28-30k on the job market. Is it fair to expect a bit more given that Ive been told Im the only person in the company who has video, design and branding skills? Or is a 5k rise already reasonable? I work for a really successful fashion company so its not like it would be coming out of my bosses pocket.

Id love to hear your thoughts, I dont want to piss anyone off as Ive a rather good thing going

if you just had a rise - then expecting another is possibly not going to happen. Continue to show your mad skillz and when the timing is right ease in and ask for a little review of your performance, value tothe company. But wait and bide your time for now - IMO.

Working there for a year and then getting a £5k raise is pretty good - also if it's the companies standard rate then I wouldn't expect them to bend it to suit a motion designer.

Yeah london. Im not looking for a second raise, its this one thats up for negotiation as i only found out today. My job description changed completely from a few months in here and they said I should really have been moved up 6 months ago, if anything I undervalued myslef when I started. Theyve also said that Im the only person (out of around 100 creative staff) who has my exact skill set to bring video and design together. Im really just asking what the industry average is really and whether I can chance my arm given that Im batting away £200 a day freelance jobs to stay here and also get regularly contacted by headhunters
