Franco did a terrible thing to Spain: he took away the opportunity for the Spanish to experience communism first hand and learn what shit it really is. Worse, he made them romanticize it ever since, as a paradise taken away from them as they were about to enter it.

So true, I watched the live news feed vid and it just looked like the first day of summer sales. Lots of people browsing round the market place. Very pleasant.
