Has anyone ever leveraged one job offer to get another?
If you want to work one place, and you haven't heard no yet, do you think it makes sense to tell them you've gotten a job offer elsewhere?

a guy i worked with was doing that 2 to prospective employers. he was gloating about it in the office one day when the boss walked in. ended up with 0 jobs out of 3.

yeah I knew a guy that tried to leverage a raise or he was going to take another offer and the boss ended up being fiends with the other company and ended up getting fired and the other offer taken off the table.

i leveraged a 32k raise. got an offer from another agency from an ex-CD, then current AE found out and told the CEO, who matched it

What happened was, I had an interview and there was no job available, but we got along well, and they said they keep me on their list and to keep in touch.

it can work out wonderfully, or horribly. IMO, there's a good and bad way to go about it. If you're looking for more challenges, and looking to grow professionally.. I don't see any harm in using an offer from a new gig to leverage your current position into more money and responsibility.
On the flip side, if you're playing the game of title changes and arbitrary raises, the karma can easily bite you in the ass. Keep in mind its a relatively small industry.. people know people and shit gets around. Don't burn bridges and you'll be fine :) Best of luck.
