Since we all last spoke is there anything other than producing genuine pages with proper H's, semantic mark-up, and getting links to you from reputable sites, that we need to know about ?

Someone is about to take their social networking site live in the next two weeks and they haven't thought about SEO. What three points of advice do you offer?
- trooperbill0
@mikotondria3 - sentiment is now important, social media mentions and links.
After Panda (Feb through April) Super quality content is now needed, plus pages need lots of text on them as theres a light content penalty that can effect the whole site.
Also Google is now picking what deep pages appear in the SERPS, its not like it used to be where this could be manipulated through deep linking so its important to get your page titles and internal anchor text right to steer google to the right destination.
thats about it off the top of my head.

@SteveJobs Look out for duplicate content. make sure all page titles and unique and that deep content can be found within 2 or 3 clicks of the home page.

@mikotondria3 pand is a recent update to the google algorithm which analyses content quality and quantity.

Can you tell me if I'm doing this right, on my website http://www.ibiza2011.info I have this title on the homepage: "Ibiza 2011 | Ibiza Club Line up 2011 | Ibiza Opening and Closing Parties 2011 |", for subpages I have this title "Ibiza Opening Parties | Ibiza 2011 | Ibiza Club Line up 2011 | Ibiza Opening and Closing Parties 2011 |" (So I just include the page name in amongst the rest of the keywords)
Is it best to do it like this, or to have individual keywords in the title for each page?

How many SEO copywriters does it take to change a lightbulb, light bulb, light, bulb, lamp, bulbs, flowers, flour...?

Hi, i got a site on a free hosting and bought a domain name from another provider, the riderection is maked so you always get the domain name on the adress bar but this way i cant verify the site to google webmaster tools (because the domain redir to the server where site is hosted is done with an iframe redir) , what can i do to verify the site with GWT?
- trooperbill0
@Akiraprise you only have 59 chars in the title and you dont need to repeat keywords as the prominience is set by the closeness to the begining of the string.
I'd suggest something along the lines of (for your home page)
Ibiza 2011 - Club Line Up, Opening & Closing Parties
32 chars you have room for more keywords here and Always start the home page with your brandId target each deep page at a different keyword, they shouldnt compete.
yes every title should be unique
- trooperbill0
@jadrian_uk you will have to register the site thats inside the iframe - you can do sub-folders! unfortunately the domain is worthless while its iframing a separate site.

I've been reading lately about how page speed and load time is now a factor for SEO. What's your opinion on that trooperbill?
Is it worth paying for a CDN service to boost load times?
Thanks!
- trooperbill0
@nocomply nope thats incorrect, as google bot always travvels from the USA theres no way to calculate accurate page load speeds as the traffic is routed through numerous trunks before hitting the server.
obviously it IS a usability factor so still needs your attention but it has zero SEO impact.
the roumer started in may lasy year as they thought that was what the update was all about... it wasnt, it was all about social media integration and deep linking.
- trooperbill0
@Akiraprise the home page is still a list and doesnt make best use of the space,
the deep page is missing the word club or clubs but is better
ill post up some suggestions over lunch for you,
- Thanks, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated, my competition is strong :(Akiraprise

trooperbill, any good tips on first steps when launching a site? Is there a particular checklist you follow? Easy backlinks to get, directories to submit to, etc...
On-page optimization is one thing, but let's face it, it's all about links at the end of the day, isn't it?:)
- trooperbill0
@ukit yep:
Title tags: under 59 chars, no repetition of keywords in any 1 title, all paghes to have unique titles, head terms in each title to be unique across them all (dont target 2 internal pages at the same keyword)
internal linking: make sure your landing pages are linked from your home page
navigation: make sure all key navigation is keyword friendly
content: make sure you have your target terms at least twice in each page and that they relate to the title tag of that page
submit to/get links from:
dmoz.org, botw.org, business.com, yahoo directorytrade associations and affiliate companies
send out press releases
set up social media profiles and optimise - follow all competitors and market leaders (hijjack conversations)
send out some article marketing to boost deep content
use services like gorkana to find media interest
- should be affiliated companies, not affiliatestrooperbill
- Nice rundown, thxukit

top tip: remove all site wide links to pages like login, register, checkout, view basket, privacy policy, terms and conditions, links etc as these all weaken your site... instead make things like basket operations and logins a javascripted link and move t&c, privacy etc to your contact section
if you type site:www.mydomain.com into google you will see all this rubbish high in the results because its linked SITE WIDE
- that's a great tip, thanks.mikotondria3
- wow, this IS a good tip. I had this happen before with my privacy policy and couldn't figure it out!SteveJobs
- I disagree as this will make navigation without Javascript impossible and navigating your site by crawlers more difficultspot13
- It's about content priority not JS'ing your links. Can you show an example where this has worked?spot13
- I find no reference to login, reg, etc:
