In North America, will potential employers scoff at me?
- duck30
It probably won't make a difference, as they may not notice the difference anyway.

I say do it. A4 is awesome. My CV was on A4 when I got my job here in MTL.

Also, if you're in the mood to piss a print shop off, set all your AI, PDF and ID files in millimetres. That _really_ gets their goats. >:D

When the potential employer prints out your A4 resume on their 8.5 x 11 printer and your copy gets cut-off...
Or if you decide to mail your A4 resume to a potential employer and it does not fit into their file cabinets...
A have a strong feeling that this A4 idea is full of win!
- A decent bottom margin fixes the printing on letter problem.Amicus

great responses, bottom margin it is.

Let me know how it works out, and if you receive any responses either positive of negative.
Good luck Pubes:)

are people really still printing resumes out? Didn't they get the memo about a looming environmental apocalypse?
- if it\s not printed, how do you ball it up and practice your three-pointers?monNom

Form follows function.
It's unfortunate the standard in North America is Letter and not A4, but like utopian points out, A4 is simply impractical in North American use.

time for some production skills. :-) ...just do it!

So I guess it stays.

please no.
letter is a beautiful proportion and is what people use.
as an iso person who lived in the states i recommend using standards. most of the people may just asume that (a) you picked the wrong document size (b) you come from a strange foreigner country and you don't like all things american (as the letter format).
you can use legal, for a change, and ensure your pages won't fit in any file, or get your cv cropped or scaled.
if any, do a simple cv and go mad with the folio format.

use a square, no really, use a square

Let's turn it around. I'm from the US and just moved to Europe... should I use 8.5x11 forms because I like it? Probably people would go..."why didn't he use A4, does he have any idea about our system.... sigh"
- nobody gives a shit in eu, if it doesn't fit somewhere you can fold it, if you can't fold it, it can lay around on its ownjimbojones
- The difference is everyone in the world uses the ISO format, not just Europe. North America are the only hold-outs.Continuity

1. Design CV/Resume in A4
2. Design CV/Resume in Letter format
3. Send which ever version suits country
4. Get a job
5. Meet a local girl
6. Get deported
7. Repeat steps 1 - 4
