I think the years of excessive monitor use has finally caught up with me at 33. The last few days I’ve had major eye irritation and some light pain. I muscled through some late night work last night when I know I should have just gone to bed to rest. Today my eyes are throbbing and very sensitive to light.
I got some homeopathic eye drops and some eye formula supplements. I was wondering if anyone else has any wisdom to share about how you deal with issues like this.

what's your workstation lighting setup like?

No wisdom, but I'm guessing that those eye drops won't do jack for you. Probably the best thing is rest, then go see an eye doctor. Could need glasses? Or you might need to just take breaks more often.

I have this pop up every few years, and it's like I need to continuously blink for a while to relieve the eyes.
Best thing to do is to not use the computer, but unfortunately most of us have to for most of the day. So sleep well...

Blinking! Yeah i read thats something people do hardly at all when at a computer.
I kinda have a dark room, so im not sure if thats such a good idea. The lighting for a workstation is something I've never really tried to fix or adjust, ive always just had a "good enough" atitude with light.
My monitor also pry only 15-16 inches from my face so it may need to go back a bit.

also, take note on how strong the brightness is on your monitor....
Sometime when i get an eye pain i check the brightness and its almost at max.... Turn it down to a comfortable level for less irritation

Funny you should mention monitor brightness. I have a newer gen iMac, and right off the bat it was way too bright for me. So I actually always run it at the lowest brightness setting ALONG with Shades, which is a monitor dimming utility. So I think that I've been pretty good on controlling how much light is being shot into my eyes.

wouldn't all this fucking with your monitor settings throw off the color of your work?
- only the visible appearance, hex and pantone are correct even if working in grayscalelogi

- still seems like it would affect the design partscarabin
- The great part about my design style is I don't give a rats ass about color. :pcarianoff
- i understand your point scarabin, taking out the emotional connection via the interface with colorlogi
- i was only stating it would technically be possiblelogi

control the ambient light as well, don't sit in a dark room with just the screen lighting the area. also, best to use light bulbs that cover more of the light spectrum something near the color temp 6500k, that's closest to daylight

and of course, change your focus often, look at objects at different distances to move your focus around..- i agree, i wonder if somehting like this would be good for any of us to read a few times during the day http://www.topendspo…logi

I posted about similar problems a while back. My eyesight is doing better these days, btw. More than anything, not working 80-hour+ weeks has helped a lot. Also, I got acupuncture. Not for the faint of heart: they stick needles all over your face, with two of them this || close to your eyeballs. Freaked me out. If I blinked they wiggled. It felt like tiny pincers were squeezing the hell out of my eyebrows and pushing electricity into my eye sockets. Weird, but effective.

Switch to analog porn. You don't always have to watch the stuff or look at pics on the computer. Plenty of great magazines out there for you to rest your eyes with.
