I signed up a while ago, and have 9 connections. I just updated for the first time in a while.
Do you usually add people you know on linkedin? On a regular basis? I could have over 30, but not sure what the point of adding friends is.

I add as many connections that I can. Then if I'm out on the job market and looking at a particular company, I can see if any of my old connections work there. Always good to get a foot in the door.

Add all that you can -
I've found it to be a fantastic resource for connecting with recruiters, having recruiters find me, I got my recent full-time job through LinkedIn, and a ton of freelance work. There's a great Beehance plug in for you to display your work and if you SEO/Keyword your profile correctly recruiters will contact you for work (either fulltime/freelance) much more frequently. You can also follow various companies - I use it to follow agencies and other businesses to see when there are job openings too. I still don't understand why more designers don't take advantage of LinkedIn

- I never thought of keywording my profile. Can you give some good tips on that?Continuity
- be sure to either include all keywords within your summary or at least in your Specialtieswhatthefunk

I don't know why people get confused about what Linked In is. Basically it is a giant directory of working people.
I can't HURT to add contacts, can it? Who knows, someone may hire you, right? Or you may refer someone?
I see it as very different from Facebook, which I use strictly for personal relationships.
Anyone I ever have worked with or even just met, I add as a connection. I figure it can't hurt.
Some friends get very weird about it, sniffing 'I don't do Linked In' - well fine, who the fuck cares....don't do it. Be stupid.

Another fantastic advantage LinkedIn has - assuming your contacts have _theire_ contacts viewable - is that if you're looking for work, you can look at who your contacts know, and approach them directly. A creative direction, art director, desgin director, managing director, whatever. You get the name of someone you want to approach, do a bit of Googling to get their contact details if they're not viewable on their profile, and Bob's your uncle.
For any sort of online professional networking purpose, LinkedIn can't be beaten.

If you can connect with anyone here feel free to try. Be prepared to be ignored by many though. Good luck bro!
- I don't mind people from here connecting with me, as long as they ID themselves as being from QBN.Continuity
