Watched it last night. So I got a little lost with the characters by the end, was the queen fucking her son?

Hooked form the opening sequence. This is already my favorite show of 2011.

Heads up for fans. HBO locked down the next season. So that's book two. Also, George RR Martin posted that the next book will be on shelves on July 12.

I liked the first ep a lot. But I have no idea what the books are about. Is there a supernatural element to this story? Will there be dragons or wizards or anything like that? I'm fine with the twincest and murder tho, just asking. Oh, and those puppy wolves are the best thing in the show!

Im pretty sure the queen wasn't fucking her brother it was the other bad guy. Although maybe they are both the same guy. Fuck I'm confused now.

I guess a lot of people have trouble taking fantasy genre seriously

What is it with these kinds of stories where something hasn't happened for "Thousands" of years.
Fucking... we don't even know what happened a thousand years ago and we have computers and stuff. How would they know what wild animals have or haven't been seen thousands of years ago.
What's wrong with fifty years? Dire wolves haven't been in the south for about fifty years? I want this to be good... writing better step it up a notch. (or maybe they cant since its all based on a novel. oh well)

@cannonball
There's a whole history back story that gets revealed in the books in pieces. The thousands of years explains a lot when you get exposed to some of the ancient things in the world. Ancient creatures showing up 50 years ago wouldn't be that special now would they? It's a good story. I suggest you pick up or borrow the first book and see how it sticks. It's much better from a character development end than Tolkien's work ever was.
