Use Decklink plug-in. I believe it's free.

i know this questions been answered, but I recently had to do this, and I had great results doing a targa img sequence, then zipping up all the img seq files, rather than making a QT animation, which is massive. These were 10 second shots, straight outta 3D, and rather than have a 2+gig file, i was dealing with approx 600mbs files. Pretty slick.

We've been a lot of help, you know - it's not too much to ask.Free crits, too !

Curious, is the ProRes 4444 codec available in AE CS5? Or Episode? Or does the codec need to be purchased separately for AE?
- I believe it's available with the latest quicktime? If not, it might only be quicktime pro. I have FCP installed so it automatically upgrades qt.DoTheMacarena
- upgrades qt.DoTheMacarena
- Cool, good to know thanks. Could be a Final Cut TQPro dealio. I'll look around.nthkl
- TQPro = QT Pronthkl

As stated above, JPG2000, PNG, or TIFF are viable options for img seq delivery, which all .zip compress VERY well (like 4.5 GB can compress into <30MB).
If it needs to be a quicktime (and/or contain audio) ProRes 4444 is also an alternative to animation and/or uncompressed and also supports an alpha channel.

This is a hard one cause of the alpha channel. I'd render Lossless in conjunction with JPG2000 or PNG sequence for delivery (All support Millions of colors +). Xfer the PNGs by FTP and have a courier pickup a DVD or hard drive to deliver the files tonight.
.MP4 H264 is the best to preserve quality and file size, but unfortunately does not support alpha channel.

PNG is a good alternative to Animation. It's lossless, can still carry an alpha, and is usually smaller in size compared to Animation.
Or you can do what was suggested above. Render out the RGB as ProRes and a separate matte. Depends on how small you need it to be.
- fountain of knowledge here. Thanks dude. expect many emails in the future :)Hombre_Lobo

You may want to check with someone at the network - most want uncompressed animation.

x264 ....100%

everything on air looks worse than h.264 to be honest with you. Fn digital cable sucks! ARTIFACTS

obviously an image sequence would be ideal, but huge.
you can have alpha channels in videos, i think h.264 and x264 both support alpha channels, but not sure.
you'll get the best compression in x264 (followed by h.264), its pretty incredible how little quality is lost for its size.
i use handbrake btw, its free and ace.
http://handbrake.fr/- neither of those support alphas unfortunately.Chief
- Thanks chief, I'm sure that knowledge will come in handy :)Hombre_Lobo

theres that avid DNxHD codec ... not sure if its mac, or if theres compatibility problems

png sequence, zipped down, should cut the filesize by a lot. pngs compress extremely well when zipping, and you can save them without lossless compression.
that, or throw on a drive and courier over to them.
