Is there any reason I shouldn't use png for all web graphics?

no...
.png away n8w...
old versions of IE require a hack to allow transparency, but not even microsoft supports them anymore...

"When PNG is better than JPG and vice versa: sometimes you just don't want to compress an image with JPG. As I mentioned earlier, if you really need transparency JPG is out. But also we've discovered small and simple images may actually compress better using PNG than JPG. It seems to depend on how much is "going on" in the image. PNG works best for vector type graphics with hard lines. JPG works best for anything with complex gradients (e.g., a photo)."
- So, for small images use .PNG... For full screen backgrounds and the like, go .JPG...ideaist
- You'll get the hang of it homey...ideaist
- Check http://giffens.ca/ I just did; background are gorgeous and .jpg.. all other items are .png for transparency...ideaist

Jpg is good. However, the more a Jpg picture is used and the more pixels are damaged - sometimes invisible to the eye.
Gif is better than Jpg, but bigger too. All depends then on the space and bandwidth.

GIF are suitable for solid colors, JPG for gradients and photos.
PNG usually are the heaviest of the three, I only use them when gradient transparency or non-integer opacity is required.
