Are the exact same thing as Flash 10 years ago. And that's the reason why Apple killed Flash.
Now, WHAT A FUCKING WASTE OF TIME FOR US.
- SoulFly0
exactly. Why pay for pacman when you could play it free on flash game sites.
- dskz0
make that money gangsta!

Right, because Flash ten years ago had 3D and worked on mobile touch screen devices...
- Boz0
^ lol.. what a stupid comparison.. Flash was ahead of time at that point and 3d was non-existant everywhere.. but overall Flash offered something unimaginable at that point..it offered ubiquitous environment for any designer and developer to work in and don't have to worry about browsers, compatibility and other stuff but concentrate on creating engaging content with all kinds of capabilities that you couldn't even begin imagine in HTML.
The same will happen with mobile.. you can laugh all you want but next year, the number 1 development tool for mobile platforms, Tvs and other devices will be Flash/AS3.. especially for 3D games, 3d interfaces and so on..
And yes.. OP has it right.. with only one correction.. Apple killed Flash on their devices.. not in general.. Flash is just fine and stronger than ever really with all the stuff they are coming out with.. but yes.. Apple knows very well what the capabilities of Flash are.. they know very well that we can build, literally native looking apps within a browser with Flash and that would have killed their app store idea right from the start...
You can't do 20-30% of shit in HTML5 what Flash is capable of and that's now.. by next year the capabilities of Flash will be again 10 years ahead of anything HTML5 has and guess what? it will work on mobile devices, on TVs, on tablets and all kinds of stuff and allow you to write and design applications and games however you want and publish without recoding everything in 5 native languages and platforms. Something that even HTML5/JS won't be able to do properly. Even Unity guys see it.. Flash 11 is the future for rich interactive content.

I was just replying to his point about apps being "the same" as what Flash did 10 years ago. Which is obviously false.
I'd love to see a Flash designer from 2001 (when AS3 didn't even exist) instantly transition to designing and coding a 3D game for iOS. LOL
The stupid comparison was his not mine...

Yeah man, total waste of time. Every time I check the weather or stocks or record a voice memo or add to my iCal or get directions and Street View it I think to myself "pffffft Flash could've done this 10 years ago."

Taking flash out of the ipad is a step back for creativity.
- Wrong. It's a step forward for mankind. Even Adobe concedes to that.AVAVA
- How could less choices and less competition be a step forward? Wrong.formed
- it wasn't taken out; it was never included in the first placemonospaced
- not including an outdated technology can be considered progress...Apple's done this many timesmonospaced
- floppy drives, for examplemonospaced
- what a stupid argument.. if there was anything out there there that solves numerous problems that Flash solves in terms of web experience we could argue that.. but it doesn't.. there isn't shit out there that can even do 1/3rd of what Flash.. so the whole argument as old technology is stupid as fuck.Boz

- argument as old technology is stupid as fuck. We are going back and making things complicated just so Apple can make more money.. them and whoever supports that shit can go fuck off.Boz
- make more money.. them and everyone who supports that shit can go fuck off.Boz
- you sound butthurtmonospaced

- Some people don't belong in the design field.pinkfloyd

and monospaced..
proper analogy in your example would be HTML5 being the floppy drive.. so we couldn't do tons of shit with it so we dumped it (aka HTML) and used FLash (DVD drive) to build fantastic things.. and now because Apple wants to make money we need to go back to Floppy just because, NOW, the floppy size isn't 1.44mb but 1.44gb while DVD size is 9gb..
But you know.. cause there's a lot of idiots who never bothered to learn anything beyond html, css and js.. now they are trying to justify the same old shit, compatiblity issues with HTML and browsers, the numerous fallbacks and who the fuck knows what else you need in terms of frameworks just so every browser can see it, just so you STILL don't have to learn Flash and AS3..
If you are saying this isn't what's happening you are lying. Anyone developing HTML5, JS/Jquery/CSS3 and all that new (next gen) awesome shit.. knows that you have to bend over backwards with all kinds of frameworks and shit to make it work on browsers. What a step FORWARD.
The future is flash for everything with rich interactivity, 3d games online and for devices too..
People seem to be in fucking denial. Every single manufacturer of devices, game engine for the web (including Unity) is adopting the new Flash/AIR versions in their workflows and on their devices.. Firefox offers automatic notice to update your flash player while Chrome comes bundled with it..
When and if we have the quality tools for HTML5/CSS3/JS development, animations and all that jazz, when you get to access APIs from a browser like microphone, camera and other hardware support and when you can do at least 90% of the shit you can do with Flash, along with full 3d GPU acceleration, video tag is finally agreed upon and supports all major codecs and webGL isn't a piece of shit dog technology and runs in hardware accelerated canvas 3d, we can START THINKING about replacing Flash.. but as I see..that time is not going to come any time soon.. and we are probably looking at HTML6 or something like that before all that even comes close.
Until then.. go ahead and keep coding in notepad.. what a wonderful and creative experience. NOT.
- seriously, all I have to do is make one little comment and you churn out this predictable rant, it's priceless reallymonospaced
- right on cue as well...I won a $10 bet with a friend because you responded as such...thanksmonospaced
- oh, and by the way, the future of rich interactivity is NOT flash, so go fuck yourself you trollmonospaced
- $20 says that puts you into a steaming frenzy and you throw another hissy fitmonospaced
- I wouldn't call it butthurt. I think it's more of annoyance.pinkfloyd
- exactly..I'm not butt-hurt at all.. I'm just super annoyed by trolls and people who talk stupid shit.Boz

I bought an iPad (1) at the weekend.
I bought for one reason alone - to use the app TouchOSC (Via MidiYoke & PureData) to act as a controller for Ableton Live. The TouchOSC Template Editor allows me to design my own touchscreen midi controllers. Draw/drag/drop sliders/knobs/buttons/LEDs etc on as many pages as I want.
This app alone is why the iPad doesn't suck if you have an actual use in mind.
I can now sell all the Midi Controller Hardware I have which will more than cover the cost of the iPad (possibly twice over!).
And if i'm playing gigs now, I dont have to take all that equipment, just my iPad and Laptop.

How many years running now are we at that "flash will be big on mobile in the next year"?
Adobe has been crying wolf for far too long now, so it's no wonder no-one other than *cough* flash developers *cough* give a shit anymore.
- formed0
The problem isn't what is 'next', the problem is that a monopolistic conglomerate has made a choice that will eliminate the competition.
That's the problem I have with it all. No competition is a bad thing.
One better than the other? Who knows, far too early to tell, certainly there has been nothing, zippo, of HTML5 that comes anywhere near quality Flash websites (that I've seen).
But I bought an iPad2. Can't beat'em, join'em, as they say.
Still, I think Flash will be on there eventually, once Adobe gets their head out of their asses and the competition gains momentum.

*sigh, there are more flash/apple threads on here than lolcats
