I don't know if they still do it, but when i lived in Pilsen (one of the neighborhoods in Chicago) they had open studios every second friday of the month. Like loads of studios. Like giant industrial buildings/lofts full of art and shit. Free drinks and snacks in many places, awesome people and generally a great atmosphere.

See the Bean, as others have said.
Go to Xoco for lunch
Art Institute, new modern wing is worth a trip, and right next to the Bean

Tomorrow will be cold, but sunny. Start at the Bean, then walk the ramp leading to the AI Modern Wing. It's the best way to enter, and you'll get amazing views of the city and shoreline.
If you go to the Shedd, skip the aquatic show. It's lame these days.
If beer is your thing, and you're not afraid to navigate around the city, get up to Logan Square (a great neighborhood, btw) and visit Revolution Brewing. Much to choose from and good eats, as well. Enjoy!

ItTango - Rev Brew also has good food... check out the Congress Theatre while you're there...vaxorcist

You could spend a weekend in the Field Museum and probably miss a bunch of stuff.

Bars:
The Violet Hour - http://www.theviolethour.com/
The Wit Rooftop Bar - http://www.thewithotel.com/the-a…
The Signature Room bar - http://www.signatureroom.com/Sig… A great place to go for a drink on the 96th floor. It is a good alternative to paying $11 to go to the observatory.Food:
Japonais - http://www.japonaischicago.com Sushi and Japanese Food.
Tank Sushi - http://tanksushi.com/ In Lincoln Square; get there by Brown Line train to Western. It's a cool neighborhood with some shopping and good bars. The Gage - http://www.thegagechicago.com/ American comfort food, across the street from Millenium Park and a couple blocks from the Art Institute. Great breakfast items.
David Burke Primehouse - http://www.davidburkesprimehouse… Dry Aged Steak and other food, probably our favorite steakhouse in the city.
Great Lake Pizza - http://www.yelp.com/biz/great-la… This is up north in a neighborhood called Andersonville. Named Best Pizza in America by GQ Magazine in 2010. Very tiny interior, you need to be there in line before they open to get one of the first tables. Not easy to get to; you can take the Red Line to Berwyn and walk north to Balmoral, and then west on Balmoral to the intersection of Clark/Balmoral. Probably a $20 cab ride both ways from downtown. Also near a great bar called The Hop Leaf - http://hopleaf.com/
The Southern - http://www.thesouthernchicago.co… Southern comfort food Located in Wicker Park, so close to various bars and shopping. Also close to the Violet Hour bar - http://www.theviolethour.com/ , and Big Star - http://www.bigstarchicago.com/ a taco bar with really good food and cheap drinks. The entire Wicker Park area is fun and has plenty of bars, shopping, and good people watching. The brewery/pizza place called Piece has probably my favorite pizza in the city. It's not Chicago style pizza, but is New Haven, CT style pizza. The white pizza with chicken, artichoke hearts and potatoes is always good. http://www.piecechicago.com.
Breakfast:
Orange - http://orangerestaurantchicago.c… - multiple locations, really good creative breakfasts.
The Gage also has good breakfast as well and is in downtown.
