Thoughts, accolades, cynicism...?
Seems like a nice Jobs antidote to me, but how will it compare in each browser?

I would like to mess around with this some more, it seems very practical and useful . is it free to try?

Because iOS is the primary use case for Wallaby, the generated code relies on some WebKit-only CSS features, which means that Wallaby’s results won’t work in every web browser.
- Wallaby’s biggest Achilles’ Heel is that it can’t convert ActionScript to JavaScript.bored2death
- and flash works in the rest... ?kingsteven

I think even if this still has a few improvements yet to be made, it is a step in the right direction unless Apple decides to actually use flash (which they won't)

Uh... this is so disappointing. It doesn't even convert any actionscript.
http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index…It's still a step in the right direction. Actionscript 3 is so close to javascript there's hope for it being added in at some point.
- yeah but it's still new.. this is first release and it really helps animators most of all.Boz

Sounds like it's basically for simple shit, like simple slides of static assets. Basically Flash version 1 (if that) but for HTML + iOS. I'm curious as to how far Adobe will take this and if it's even worth trying to play around with.

It's pretty much just for banners

Seems like even the Smokescreen project was more robust, since it at least supported some actionscripting

Last I heard only a small percentage of phones support Flash. And HTML5 is going to be ramping up soon, especially with IE9 launching this month.
- This is more to do with tablets than phones. No one gives a shit that flash doesn't run on phoneshotroddy

People don't know what Flash is. They don't know what and when they're missing it. It's not fair or even correct to say they don't give a shit. It's not even right to say only a small percentage of phones don't support Flash. A lot of those phones are so shitty people aren't really looking at the web on them. Only Smart phones should count and most of them support Flash.
- Agree with the first part, but not the second, see belowabettertomorrow

I think you guys need a dose of actual numbers here:)
http://www.readwriteweb.com/mobi…
"At the Adobe MAX Developer Conference earlier last year, Adobe had forecasted 9% of mobile phones would support Flash in 2010, but as of year-end, the actual number was 12%.
...
This year, around one-third (roughly 36%) of smartphones will support Flash"
And of course phones matter, it's a much bigger market than tablets. Why do you think Adobe is putting out software like this?
- That 36% is Adobe's projection for this year...I think it was 50% by 2012abettertomorrow

Nice article. I stand corrected, but this numbers/trends sound promising anyway.
