My lady is a stylist so with me being an art director we share a LOT of the same interests and references, and can talk work for ages. It's so good because she comes from a much more fashion led place than me and that's where I want my work to go so in the past few years we've been together my work's changed loads, as have the people I've hung ut with (more of her fashion friends, less of my blokey designer nerd friends).
We've worked on some stuff together too, with her as a stylist and creative director and me as a graphic designer.. and earnt some money in the process.
I feel like it would be either a blessing or a curse if she wasn't remotely attached to what I do. She's pushed me way further than i'd have ever gone on my own, and smells a rat in my work a mile off. But sometimes it gets slightly uncomfortable – this week i worked with a stylist for a job – one of her friends – and she was upset that she didn't get to do it..... so rough with the smooth!

I think the difference between your spouse being in your profession as a designer vs. most other fields is design really changes you. I can't even remember myself before design - when I didn't notice the subtitles in ads directed at me. When I didn't consider brands and realize it is all so superficial and a real form of trickery in a most cases. Maybe it's beginning to be more commonplace for individuals to think this way but if I were with someone that wasn't able to take a step back and see how they're being manipulated by an ad I couldn't date or marry them. I don't care if they don't appreciate typography or understand color theory but if they don't understand messaging it just wouldn't work.

Do you give a flying fuck about that bitch at her work who's always talking smack about her?
Do you give a flying fuck about the dream she had last night?
Do you give a flying fuck about the dress she saw that looked sooo good but doesn't suit her because tshe has abnormally narrow shoulders?
Just sayin'....
ok jokes aside, as long as she understands something I'm passionate about I'm happy. Ignorance is no problem... but I could never marry someone who literally just wouldn't understand a single aspect of it

The missus is visual artist / photographer. That helps.
She's good on what she does and helps me when I need images and I in return help her with technical stuff, editing, filter/pshop, typesetting. However, the least reason that makes me being with her is that we are in filed that relate. I rely more on having a laugh about the same things than talking shop -not to mention that she's utterly hot.

My wife knows a shit about design... but she is a cool woman, wife and mother. I married her just beacause of this.
If i want to talk about design, i talk with co-workers and friends.
This way i can go back home and let all the shit involved on the day by day work... at the office.

If your lady were a proctologist would you find it important for her, that your you understand and have interest in what she's doing? I mean, for her, sometimes she may wanna talk about rectums and stuffs, but you understand nothing in that.
Opinion?- is it ok to give two shits about a proctologist's patient? let me guess you can't be assed.maikel

my wife makes a great target audience for my work. sees things that the regular shopper would that blow by me.

My wife is a CD with often an equally hectic/demanding work life as me, so we can relate perfectly when one of us tells the other it'll be late nights/weekends at the office.
