(managed to mess up the other thread)
I frequent overclockers uk forums and in the PC games section a user was mentioning his troubles about the lack of custom controls in the game Dead Space 2. He wanted walk forward assigned to a mouse button.
It transpires that this user named Gareth has cerebral palsy (from birth) and uses only his chin to play games and browse the internet. and he seems to do it pretty well.
Forum thread -
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk…Now more importantly, the users of OCUK have made a petition to help encourage developers in general and the developers of Dead space to enable more control customization for disabled gamers.
The story has since been getting some big coverage receiving nearly 40,000 petition signatures and having articles on various websites like so -

http://www.reghardware.com/2011/…His 3 Youtube videos have also received nearly 300,000 views having only been uploaded for about a week and a half.
The forum thread too has grown rapidly and he is receiving huge amounts of support from ocuk members, offering help, hardware, controllers, anything that may better his computer interaction and gaming.
If you would like to sign the petition it is found here, all that is required is an email -

nice story. as an update, the kid got a response and devs are working on it.

^no way! That's awesome :)
what a result!!!

Why doesn't he just set the mouse button to a keystroke for that application? I've been able to do this for a decade.

^thats what I would have suggested, but loads already have done. He's been offered loads of advice like this, but now he wants the devs to make it easier for diables gamers to map controls without having to faff about with third party apps.

Throughout the thread you see other disabled gamers talking about how important gaming is to them, offering a freedom not accessible in real life. Some say it's far better than any drugs, it really relaxes your mind and gives them a break.
Interesting stuff.

i was writing keyboard accessibility stuff in to an interactive project last night (left/right/space) and was discussing this with my girlfriend... other than blindness (we also have non-flash pages for that) what sort of disability would you have that means that you wouldn't prefer to use a mouse?
just going through the accessibility guidelines, absolutely no provisions the other way round (mapping keyboard controls to the mouse). well spotted hombre, i'll be thinking about this next time.

On top of that, AMD were meeting with overclockers UK (pc hardware retailer), and they heard of the story and were so impressed with gareths dedication to gaming they are offering him a Graphics card of his choice!
http://forums.overclockers.co.uk…
He's chosen an ati 6990 (Estimated price of around £500 - £700)
probably similar looking to one of these -
but performance wise its set to be the best graphics card on the market.props to AMD for supporting their target Market - hardcore gamers.
