I truly enjoy NPR, but have never contributed.
In all honesty the beg a thons are crazy annoying. It really turns me off. There has got to be a better way to get a few measly extra bucks. How much funding actually comes from these drives? I cannot figure it out: http://www.npr.org/about/aboutnp…

I just recently became of NPR radio since I moved further away from work and my commute became longer. The radio programs are truly entertaining, the way they deliver stock market info actually is comprehensible.
I'm signing.

It will backfire, like much of what they are proposing (seen Obama's approval ratings lately?).
"Less debt, no fluff, less spending...blah blah blah" sounds fine and dandy, but when it comes down to the actual cuts it becomes a tad more difficult.

Idk, the station manager for my local station, WHYY, makes $700,000. I don't think the on air talent even makes that much. I think he could take a cut.
That being said, I'll still be writing my reps.

Did you know NPR has a larger audience than Fox News, MSNBC, or any of those cable news networks? Kinda funny
- did not know that.... maybe that's why Fox news called NPR's show "Morning Sedition"vaxorcist
- morning sedition is a good band namedoesnotexist

yeah, it's about the point... and I believe you're right... if NPR no longer receives tax money, it could become more left and therefore bad for the conservatives...
then again this isn't the first time they've shot themselves in the foot... I mean Sarah Palin running as VP... HA

It's not about the money, it's about the symbolism and the implied-insult-to-capitalism factor..
Conservatives HATE NPR and PBS because, well, their very existence is because commercial radio SUCKS ASS and commercial television is unlikely to show stuff that PBS does... though PBS has gotten so much more careful over time... I used to call it the Petrolium Broadcasting Service after seeing all those sponsored by Atlantic Richfield/Shell/etc oil company titles....
But seriously, if PBS and NPR subsist on viewer/listener memberships, wouldn't that be an interesting nightmare for conservatives.... they'd much rather have them neutered by having to keep sponsors happy.. whether the sponsor was congress or a bunch of oil companies and big pharma companies...

You'd be surprised on how small of a contribution our tax money is in this situation...

I have to disagree, they are clearly not in grave danger. They subsist as-is with the large majority of their budgets coming from the private sector, and not the public. To be clear though, I'm not saying that we should cut funding, but rather that they will be just fine with out it if the Rethugs are able to pass this stuff.
Federal funding only makes up about 1 – 2% of NPR / PBS's current annual budgets – I think there are a good number of people out there that falsely believe they are somehow fully funded by the federal government, when in truth a cut like this is not going to end them, not even close.

good luck with that. perhaps you can get Fox News to do a story for you.

With Republicans back in charge of the House of Representatives, funding for NPR and PBS is in grave danger. Again.
The Republicans just released their budget proposal, and it zeroes out funding for both NPR and PBS--the worst proposal in more than a decade.
We need to tell Republicans that cutting off funding was unacceptable last time they were in charge, and it's unacceptable now.
