seams a bit crazy to bid on something you haven't actually seen or driven.

I bought my mom a car on ebay. Worked out awesome. Buy from a car dealership though, the dealer told me those are the cars they're trying to get off the lot, from trade-ins and shit. I bought her an 2005 Honda Accord. The only thing wrong with it was the hood latch which costed $300 to replace at the same dealership. I got it for $1,800 under Kelly Blue Book. Just look for cars that look like they were used for commuting.
And finally, know what YOUR max bid is. Bid in the last 30 seconds. There are a lot of dealers who probably create fake accounts just to outbid bidders and get the auction amount to go up.

Yes, I bought my BMW M3 on ebay, believe it or not. Had it shipped from Chicago to Denver, too. Saved a bundle, got every option I wanted, color options, etc.
Do your homework. I had the car inspected by a dealer, had the dealer act as a liaison for the check (sent the check to the dealer, guy handed over the keys, check went to guy).
I was super picky, though, and had hunted for the exact model for 6-8 months (everywhere from local dealers to ebay).
I do love ebay. The deals I've gotten have been pretty amazing (car, watches, clothes, etc., etc.).
Now, if you are talking about that cadillac you posted on COTD, well, then, I don't have any advice for you ;-)

no, but i did find the exact g500 i was looking for on there a couple years ago and then went and saw it in person, made them an offer, and bought it. got lucky since it was close by - seems like a lot of work otherwise

I bought a 1976 Scout II off of ebay a couple years ago, and it worked out really well. I got a good price and was able to inspect it before I made the final payment. Unfortunately, I've been kind of lax on the whole restoration process, but it looks great in my garage.

Yes, I got a 1998 Aura Type R for 10,000 from a private seller. The title transfer and registration did not go very smooth, but the car was as described. I would do it again.

I bought a 1965 Ford Falcon from an independent seller. Some guy in upstate NY. The car cost me $2k, but $1,500 to ship it to Seattle where I was living, which was lame.
- why didn't you fly over and had a road trip back? no time over?akrok
