The best restaurant in the world to me is wherever I'm sharing a good times with good friends, good service and better food. I never really considered "critics reviews" if you worked on a magazine before, you know how easy it is to get a good review for anything.
And even if it was a sincere review, it's always tied to someone else's opinion. What if you just happen to not agree with that person's taste? What if you are just different to that person?
Right now for me, a really good restaurant is a whole in the wall in Little Tokyo/ LA called Daikokuya
They serve ramen noodles, it's very small, greasy and it's full of people, no matter what time you go, or what day, chances are you will be waiting at least 45minutes, but it's worth it.

Banff, Alberta, Canada - Eden at the Rimrock Resort
Was here last year on my honeymoon and it was amazing. Going back in a couple of weeks. Probably not the best in Canada, but certainly the best in Alberta.
