can't you just shade normally then throw some noise over the whole thing?

to add noise, create a new layer, fill with 50% gray, go filter>add noise. check monochromatic/guassian at something like 6.5% (if you're working around 150-300 ppi) then set the layer to overlay

you could also try setting your shade layers to dissolve, but i always thought that blending mode was kinda stupid and a hack

I'd just use some old scanned grainy film negatives shot of a blue sky, then color tweek them to get a nice photo grain....

add noise and gaussian blur or film grain/grain/diffuse plugins

You can scan rough paper to get this effect. If the paper is slightly wavy (curled) and you don't close the scanner, you get a great grainy texture wave. You can then isolate this and use a screen/overlay/whatever filter and apply it to your shapes.

looking at that image again... is that a watermark? looks almost like it could be text on the other side of a scanned piece of paper?
