Hi,
does anybody has any good tip for scanning medium format films?
My current setup is EPSON Perfection 4990 Photo with EPSON scan software but most of the time I'm not that happy with the result.
've seen some good work with ScanVue but I'm not a scan expert so maybe there's something better.
Thanks.

Perhaps if you described what aspect you were unhappy with?

VueScan is good. But same deal with Epson software, you need to get into professional settings and tweak.

does the 4990 have the adaptive optics like the v700 does? 'cause it makes a huge difference in the quality of the scanner.
and what don't you like about your results?

... It's more likely your settings and/or scanner that's teh problem.

Turn off all the auto corrections. Turn off levels, sharpening, everything. Turn off color correction too; just get a straight scan. If you're not happy with the result, it's probably broken.

- show us a bad result, 'cause a good result isn't going to tell us anythingbetelgeuse

- Thanks, the problem is the one reported above: very different results changing the scan area...ItalianStallion

- if the results change with the area selected it must be something "automatically" making adjustments based upon what it's currently seeingbetelgeuse

Sorry but I don't have "bad scans" here and I usually throw them away.
As I said the problem is that I have to try several times to get a good quality image and the strange thing is that if I change a little the scan area I get a completely different result.
I know this may depend from scanner instead of the software I use, that's why I asked for scannig software/hardware stable setup.
Thanks!- Sounds like you've got some automatic levelling going on, if minor image changes result in noticeable differences.detritus
- ffs, turn off the auto correction shite as we have all saidmonospaced
