So I nabbed the James Blake album from one of the last FMT's. I'd never heard of him before and there seemed to be a lot of hype around this new release.
At first listen, I thought "what the fuck is this?" I actually didn't like it - I think. I listened again, and it started to hit me differently. Now on third listen on a proper surround system, it's excellent.
I think it mixes minimal style with maximum complexity, which I think adds up to contrast. And contrast really tickles my pickle.
So for the JB fans, how does this release stack up to his other stuff?

I feel this new album is much better than his previous releases, but I can't explain why. Really digging it.
For those of you who weren't loving his previous work, I'd say this is worth a few spins at least.

I like it. I'm on track three of my second listen when I just noticed this thread.

Strangely pleasant.
Kinda felt like if Richard D. James discovered a collection of R&B/Soul samples.

I'm admittedly out of the loop with a lot of newer artists, but this stuff really intrigues me. Not sure how he produces it, the technique with the vox and stuff, but I really like it!

Reminds me of Prefuse 73, somewhat.

Syncopated beats - and aurally distinct sounds. Tied together in with an unexpected, sparse, but well-structured manner.
Reminds me a bit of Le Tone.

I did not now know about this guy until last night. His stuff sounds excellent on my big stereo and in my car. He also does his own vocals right?
I was on Pirate Bay yesterday after ransacking Pitchfork's and URB's top albums of 2010. This guy was just one of the gems I'd been sleeping on. MP3's coming up...
This song got me hooked right away:

"I Never Learnt To Share," off his eponymous upcoming LP, strikes me as the track to beat for all electronic music in 2011. Soulful, sexy, whip-smart minimalistic webs. He's an animal.
