it's not a magic button that makes everything look good for sure.
it really depends on how you use it. and that where designers come in.

I like the minimalist approach in packaging. None of those images on the dezeen site show them in any context, which is where they're most effective. I've often walked down aisles in the supermarket, where it's typically to have so much going on visually with layering and gradients, etc., and have been stopped by packaging that takes this approach because It really stands out.

nothing wrong with minimalism, but def. something wrong with overusing minimalism, or using 'minimalism' to describe a shitty sparseness.

Minimalistic packaging works if you know what it is that you are buying (brand and product).
Packaging art gives the impression of what it could be that you are buying and what you could do with it.
