    How much did it cost to bring these applications to the market before? Aren't devs cutting out many, many middle people in an effort to get to the consumer's money faster and in a less expensive fashion?

    Also, the cost of any hardware to get the applications into the hands of consumers is now virtually nil. Discs, printing, etc for software are in large part a thing of the past. That factors hugely into the final cost of getting a product to market.

    Plus, a lot of the apps that are sold in the app store wouldn't have a snowball's chance in hell of getting anyone's attention in the marketplace because of oversaturation. I think it's all relative. Plus, devs – as others have stated – set their own prices, so it's hard to feel bad, though I do understand where you're coming from.
