Has anyone done it before?
I'm thinking of attempting it around May next year with a group of friends.
Any advice on the best training this early out?
For those that don't know:

damn, sounds awesome! not sure how you'd train for this but my guess is a shit ton of cardio, and a lot of squats and deadlifts. if you can train at altitude that'd help you as well. but i'm no expert.

This will be pointless as I haven't done it... but a number of my friends have tackled it a few times. Most made it and celebrating their achievement afterwards sounded good. A fair amount of training sounds like it is recommended. I may have a go one day if I ever get round to changing my diet and contemplating exercise.

- yeah, I've just looked on google maps - looks like there is over 10hrs of driving between each peak.Not_Just_Another
- 10hrs in total - not between each!
Lets hope we can find a driver who's up for itNot_Just_Another

Yeh, the driver is a tough one to find as it has to be someone who is happy sitting and waiting while everyone else rocks up a mountain.

- There was talk of hiring a minibus for it, that way we might have a couple of drivers - ease the burdenNot_Just_Another

Good luck! I really want to do this but have had difficulty getting a team together. There was a great article in the National Geographic a good few years ago if you can hunt it down, heres a shorter web version: http://ngm.nationalgeographic.co…

Haven't but it looks intense. Did this in Nov, looks similar:
At the first aid check points it's great to have lunch, I normally do two big turkey sandwiches and a diet soda. This is at about the 15 mile mork for me. For the run itself I'd suggest the following:
Camelback MULE. 1 100oz reservoir and a 2nd 70oz reservoir. HEED goes in the little guy and maybe a water bottle.
http://www.amazon.com/Camelbak-M…Heed Hammer gel. 2-3 full hand helds ready to go.
http://www.hammernutrition.com/p…HEED Hammer electrolyte powder, infused with water in your camelback.

In regards to training for Endurance Marathons, I'd say to be sure you tackle 1-2 street Marathons prior to attempting an endurance marathon in the mountains. Then move into cross country training and get used to mountain running. It's 1000x different than street running. Your strides will be shorter, and less low to the ground drag. And the knee ligament stress is much more aggressive.
I'd never tackle terrain i was not familiar with, so checking out the trail you will be running before hand is a must.
- thanks mate - I'm in the early stages of training for half marathon at the moment, hopefully that'll help!Not_Just_Another
- Everything will help. Keep the pace slow (11-12 minute miles), and you'll go farther. Promise.nthkl
- thanks mate, I can see you and evil running away on the QBN challenge - you guys are machines!Not_Just_Another

You should just fly to California and climb real mountains. ;-)
