Kindle is good. Its simple, it works, battery on mine lasts forever. no frills.. just books and reading.

Not the same comparison model, but I read this a while back, and was suitably impressed by the idea of a Sony. Byt hey, that's 3 decades of marketing right there..

Like my missus, are you sure she's not the sentimental type who enjoys the tactile feel of a book?
I considered getting my missus a kindle, but she wasn't interested. No kindle for her!

Thanks guys
Just ordered a Kindle 3... coming here around mid January.
About the sentimental thing... we´ve got a enormous amount of books at home, and be sure they´re going to be readen by my kids too, but the e-book thing that´s an idea going round and round her head time a go
I personally will never going to buy a comic-book if it´s not print on paper, (fingers crossed ;))
- "readen." really?doublespaced

I'm slightly amused by the arguments for 'sentimentality' surrounding the transition to eReaders. All the people I know who are actual regular readers can't wait for them, myself included.
I get the impression that it's the people who buy books by the yard and perhaps only read substantially once or twice a year who rue the medium's passing.
Or, at least, are being the most vocal about things.

*coyls toys with nipples, staring at you more than suggestively*detritus - I agree. I read a ton of books (always have) and I welcome e readers. Very convenient.doublespaced

Ok Nairn... i´ll admit i´m a bit excited with the idea of getting a really-usable-electronic-reading... but only this time, privately... my public voice will fight for defend the printed paper to death ;)

re: sentimentality of physical book...to date, every single person I've heard poo poo e-readers because they love the physical book so much...have never had a Kindle or other reader in their hands for more than 5 minutes. And all the people who have, convert pretty quickly.

I own a kindle, but I personally have more preference for a book. For me, I think it's because I can flip to any page at anytime without having to sift through buttons. To each, their own.
- bookmarks and notes are nice on the Kindle...better than sifting through pages...but I see your pointdoublespaced
