My side venture, TypographyShop just released the second in our series "The Ten Commandments of George Lois."
http://typographyshop.com/george…Since the QBN community has been good to us I'd like to give thanks by awarding the t-shirt of their choice to five randomly selected QBN users who sign up for our mailing list between now and Thanksgiving morning at 9am EST. http://typographyshop.com/mailin…
The quotation reads "The creative act, the defeat of habit by originality, overcomes everything." When I first approached George about collaborating, this quote was his immediate suggestion. My favorite quote of his, "Great ideas can't be tested. Only mediocre ideas can be tested" was the first release in the series.

Clumsy commas?

It was tricky as could be having no less than 3 lines of hanging punctuation on a justified setting. I did dozens of settings for this, many of which I posted at Dribbble: http://dribbble.com/PatrickKing Many of them wouldn't have had that issue. My writer friends had a huge problem with the punctuation to begin with, but I didn't want to edit George's syntax.
George picked this one and I ran the punctuation issue by a number of designer friends and type community geeks who thought it worked.

I always felt weird telling a stranger to hold still while I read the bullshit on their shirt. 9x outta 10 I asked them for my time back that I wasted. People want kick ass shirts that are designed well.

Thanks capn_ron Many might not wear it, but we did well with his last quotation. When I googled this quote it came up all over the place, so some folks appreciate the sentiment. The full quote is usually preceded by the words "Creativity can solve any problem." Which would have made it even longer. Maybe the next one needs to say just that.
We're talking about releasing these in poster form as well, signed by George as I don't want to just do t-shirts.

haters are a dime a dozen.

I'm all for brevity. One of our best sellers simply says "Sans."

Years before I started designing t-shirts as a way to escape my design practice to paint (which I'm still waiting for) I would quote the great Fran Lebowitz who loved to say "If I don't want to hear from you what makes you think I want to hear from your fucking t-shirt?"
Years later when I learned that printed t-shirts are the largest selling item of clothing on earth I changed my tune.

I'm not a fan of the quotes. But I do like the simple ones, like "Sans", and "Letterpress".

That's one of the best shirts out there. The folks at Collapse http://www.collapse-design.co.uk… are a great bunch. People have knocked this one off, but there's is the original.

I work at an agency: am buying a George Lois T-shirt for my boss. Can suck up and send a worthwhile message.
