- iPad might be "mobile" but it displays websites exactly like a full size computerdoublespaced
- iPad apps are just like sites, the apps ported to support the higher resolution iPads Vs. iPod/Iphone are sick. Stunning graphics, this isn't a mobile by any means.puffydiddy

It's safe to design for the full width of the iPad, but many people view in portrait mode as well. In the end, the iPad can display most sizes just fine. To truly make it work well, though, you have to consider the touch interface and the size of elements. For instance, abc.com looks wonderful on the iPad because they took into account that people will be navigating with their fingers (not a mouse). QBN, on the other hand, doesn't work well because the PV list is so small and hard to accurately navigate without zooming. Hope that helps.

they say 1024x768, I'd disagree, if you go with 1011x759 everything will be aligned perfect, at least in my case that was the height and width.

use css3 media queries to detect the orientation of the device

better yet download the beta of ANTETYPE : http://antetype.com : sick app for phone developers, it'll give you all the code needed to fix, scroll, accordion, forms etc.. it's really nice.

use the meta-tag viewport to set a width (scales your page to desired width) and this to detect orientation:

I made a couple of pages to test this exactly. Zoom into the corners to read the dimensions

It's 1024 x 768 @ 132 DPI.
