its cause of the new goverment split. There is heavy pressure from the muslim and christian parties to ban them, but the liberal and free market parties are trying to pass this as a solution

it won't happen will it? how can the dutch pass up that tourist dollar?

"It's not going to happen," said Michael Veling, spokesman for the Union of Cannabis Retailers and owner of the 4:20 cafe in Amsterdam.
"I'm not worried because I have something in my head that's called common sense."

A liitle more freedom taken away every day

I'm sure they'll change their tune when millions less tourists start hitting Amsterdam each year

Its really not enforceable. You will be fine.

That's a 1st world problem, I'm willing to tackle!

its totally enforcable, all the need to do is a few raids a week, institute a zero tolerance policy on selling to non residents and one by one the coffeeshops will close.
if these laws are passed, amsterdam will loose millions and millions of euros from tourists. it is a beautiful city, but there a many many other beautiful and cheaper cities in Europe.
The have already banned magic mushrooms.. which were legally available.. although i guess weed would be harder to stop.
there is better weed in Berlin anyway.. and cheaper.

they are removing all the fun
- dconstrukt0
its still bullshit.
they are ruining amsterdam.

Interesting. For a nation of past merchants, this sounds like a pretty poor business decision. I'd be surprised if it gets passed into law for all establishments.

What they really should do, if they're clever, is pass this law, "realise it was a mistake" and then compromise by putting a massive tourist tax on it. Shabang... even more money for them than ever instead of losing millions! And it'll give something the stoner conspiracy theorists to yap about for centuries
- CanHazQBN0
how will they differentiate from people who live here to tourists? What if you don't live there but can speak Dutch?
- bliznutty0
"They say it's to avoid criminality but it will create more criminality. If they can't go to coffee shops they will buy it from Dutch people on the streets. It's bullshit."
- scarabin0
at least there's still hookers.

way to go, brits, for ruining everyone's party
